If Bruce Springsteen is the voice of blue-collar New Jersey, then Lou Reed is his New York doppelgänger who sings for the folks caught under the shoe of NYC life. From prostitutes, drug dealers, transvestites, transsexuals, to poor and forgotten they are his muse and he their voice. He was the mayor of the island of misfit toys and those who were part of society loved that he was their voice.
